PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of reducing vertical movement caused in a car by getting in and out movement of a passenger at landing and stopping of the car and capable of preventing uncomfortable feeling to the passenger. SOLUTION: A guide rail 2 is vertically provided in an elevator shaft 1, and the car 4 lifting through the elevator shaft 1 is suspended by a main rope 5. A roller guide shoe 6 movably engaged with the guide rail 2 is installed on the car 4. A brake mechanism 8 constituted by operation bodies 10 and 12 operating through the landing and stopping movement of the car 4 and wedge shaped brake pieces 12 and 13 intervening between a guide surface 3 of the guide rail 2 and a roller 7 of the roller guide shoe 6 by the operation of the operation bodies 10 and 12 is provided on the car 4 so as to brake lifting displacement of the car 4. Thus, the vertical movement of the car 4 by load change with respect to the car 4 caused by getting in and out of the passenger can be restrained by operation of the brake mechanism 8 at landing and stopping of the car 4.
