PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azimuth measuring system which can realize the orthogonality of magnetic fields without being influenced by the orthogonality in terms of the shape and the arrangement of triaxial exciting coils. SOLUTION: A first exciting coil 13X arranged in a reference position is excited, and voltages induced in a first detecting coil to a third detecting coil arranged in a position to be measured are taken out sequentially. A second exciting coil 13Y is excited, and voltages induced in the first to third detecting coils are taken out sequentially. A third exciting coil 13Z is excited, and voltages induced in the first to third detecting coils are taken out sequentially. By using the obtained induced voltages of nine kinds, an azimuth to the position to be measured is calculated on the basis of the reference position. One exciting coil from among the first to third exciting coils, e.g. the first exciting oil, is used as a reference. When the third exciting coil is excited, a compensation voltage is applied to the first and second exciting coils in such a way that their magnetic-field outputs are at right angles to magnetic-field outputs by the first and second exciting coils, and AC magnetic fields which are at right angles to each other are generated.
