PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer type printer wherewith a transfer unit can be compact, mounting of an ink ribbon is easy, and the transfer unit can be revolved by small operation force. SOLUTION: In the transfer type printer, the transfer unit 16 is provided with a shaft 13 for supply roll of the ink ribbon 12, and a shaft 14 for taking-up roll of the ink ribbon and holding a printing head 15 and arranged in a main body housing 19 in a freely revolvable manner. The shaft 13 for the supply roll of the ink ribbon is also used as the revolving shaft of the transfer unit 16.
