PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the change of composition caused by vaporized loss of copper and to reduce the mixture of gaseous oxygen in a method for melting a copper-chromium base alloy having 5-70 mass% Cr content. SOLUTION: The atmosphere in a melting chamber is replaced with inert gas, such as hydrogen, argon, and the pressure in a melting chamber is regulated to >=100 Pa to perform the melting.
