PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily, industrially and efficiently producing high-purity 3-chloro-1-propanol free from impurities including its ether modification by selectively chlorinating 1,3-propanediol with hydrochloric acid or a hydrogen chloride gas as the hydrogen chloride source. SOLUTION: This method for producing high-purity 3-chloro-1-propanol comprises the steps of reacting a hydrogen chloride source with 1,3-propanediol at 60-100 deg.C to obtain a reaction liquid containing 3-chloro-1-propanol and then extracting and removing impurities present in the reaction liquid with a hydrophobic organic solvent.
