PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a slip at an initial rotation of a resist roller can be detected by a resist sensor but a sheet conveying state after passing through the sensor cannot consider a later slip. SOLUTION: A printer comprises a controller 50 for controlling a resist motor 102 to compensate for a slip of a second sheet until a distal end of a sheet 3 arrives at a sheet passage sensor 77 from a resist sensor 71 based on a signal from the sensor 77, after the motor 102 is controlled to compensate for the slip of a first sheet until the distal end of the sheet 3 arrives at the sensor 71 from the nip of the resist roller pair 33a and 33b based on a signal from the sensor 71.
