CARBON FIBER AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbon fiber excellent in affinity with a fiber-reinforced resin and interfacial adhesion thereto and good in a strength when used as a reinforcing material for the fiber-reinforced resin. SOLUTION: This carbon fiber has the maximum peak within the range of 532.7 to 534.0 eV of bond energy in O1s spectrum of the surface thereof measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The fiber is obtained by a method for producing the carbon fiber comprising a surface treatment step of treating the surface of the fiber with a supercritical fluid or a subcritical fluid. The fluid is preferably water.
