PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer having a simple structure and capable of performing proper control even if the characteristics, circuit or the like of a head main body are altered. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer A is equipped with an ink jet head 1 having an ink discharging head main body 2, a wiring board 3 for driving the head main body 2 and the connector 6 connected to the wiring board 3 and constituted so that the ink jet head 1 can be electrically connected to the apparatus main body 10 through the connector 6. The connector 6 has a terminal for discriminating a head version. A plurarity of resistors are mounted, the mounting position of them is selected to be connected to the terminal for discriminating the head version, and the head version is constituted so as to be discriminable. The resistors are mounted so as to be connected to the terminal for discriminating the head version, and the resistance values of the resistors are altered to make the head version discriminable.
