PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooler in which the defrosting efficiency of a defrosting operation can be improved and a compressor can be protected. SOLUTION: A controller 30 is provided for controlling a hot gas solenoid valve 20 and a liquid solenoid valve 21 to perform a cooling operation and a defrosting operation. When the controller 30 receives a prescribed defrosting start signal for instructing the defrosting operation to be started, if the compressor 8 is operated, the controller 30 starts the defrosting operation under a condition that the compressor 8 is continuously operated for prescribed time or more.
