PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic acid by vapor phase catalytic oxidation of a mixture of an alkene and an alkane. SOLUTION: This method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic acid comprises a single-pass vapor phase catalytic oxidation reaction of a mixture of an alkene and an alkane in the presence of a catalyst comprising a multiple metal oxide of the formula: AaMmNnXxOo (wherein, A is selected from molybdenum and tungsten; M is selected from vanadium and cerium; N is selected from tellurium and selenium; X is selected from niobium, tantalum and titanium; when (a)=1, m=0.01-1.0, n=0.01-1.0, and x=0.01-1.0; (o) depends on the respective oxidized states of the other elements). |
