PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR INDIRECT CATALYST HEATING IN A REGENERATOR

A process and apparatus for heating catalyst is presented. Cooler catalyst is removed from a reactor and heated with a hot gas in a riser, heated in a heating tube or heated in a heating chamber. Heated catalyst is disengaged from the hot gas if necessary and returned to the reactor. The process and apparatus can be used for producing light olefins. The hot gas may be a flue gas from an FCC regenerator or a combustion gas from a heater.

1. A process for heating a catalyst bed to promote a reaction comprising:
passing a hydrocarbon feed stream to a reactor vessel to react over a catalyst bed in the reactor vessel and produce a product gas; withdrawing said product gas stream from the reactor vessel; withdrawing a catalyst stream from the reactor vessel; passing the catalyst stream from the reactor through a heating tube positioned in a catalyst regenerator; heating the catalyst stream by indirect heat exchange with combustion occurring in the catalyst regenerator; and passing the heated catalyst stream to the reactor vessel.
