PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To streamline operations such as sterilization of a container in which contents are sealed. SOLUTION: The method for sterilizing a container 1 having a tubular mouth 1b and a flange 1c projecting outward in a radial direction of the mouth 1b comprises steps of sealing contents in the container 1, thereafter placing a support 71 which is formed like a pipe and has a slit-formed aperture 72 formed along a longitudinal direction with an interval of its opposite aperture ends 73 to be wider than a diameter of the mouth 1b and narrower than a diameter of the flange 1c, so that the aperture 72 faces downward, engaging the mouth 1b with an aperture 53 so that the flange 1c is supported from downward by the opposite aperture ends 73 thereby suspending the container 1 from the support 51, and sterilizing the container 1 in this state.
