PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new bactericidal phenyl imidate derivative, to provide a method for producing the same and to obtain a bactericidal composition containing the same, as certain kind of phenyl imidate has been found to have the bactericidal activity. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a bactericidal compound represented by formula I and salts thereof (exemplified by O-methyl-[4-(3- trifluoromethylphenoxy)-2,5-xylyl]acetoimidate), the bactericidal composition containing the same and to provide a method for controlling bacteria that has a step in which the bactericidal composition is applied.
