PURPOSE: A system and a method for converting a channel for compressing a Hi-Fi audio signal are provided to improve compression efficiency of a Hi-Fi audio signal. CONSTITUTION: A system for converting a channel for compressing a Hi-Fi audio signal includes a pre-processing block(102) for sampling input R and L channels to convert the channels into an odd-numbered channel and an even-numbered channel, and a block(106) for calculating the average value of the odd-numbered and even-numbered channels using an overlapped moving average window value. The system further includes a block(108) for determining an angle value of the calculated average value, and a block(110) for integrating the odd-number and even-numbered channels to generate a single channel value and an overhead channel value using an axial rotation matrix based on the angle value. The system also has a block(112) for compression-encoding the single channel value according to an encoding algorithm, and a block(114) for compression-encoding the angle value ad the overhead channel value into overhead information according to an encoding algorithm. |
