A method for re-shaping portions of a coating applied to the surface of a component17 includes providing a collet 21 having threaded first end 22 and a second end that is slotted 23 to define a plurality of flexible arms 24. A wheel 25 is rotatably supported on each of the arms 24 such that a portion of the wheel outer surface extends radially inwardly from the inner surface 21b of collet 21. Such outer surfaces are formed having a plurality of circumferential ridges 25b that correspond to the desired new shape for the coating. The tool 20 is initially installed by disposing collet 21coaxially about component 17. A nut 40 is threaded onto collet 21 so engaging and moving sleeve 30 axially toward arms 24, causing arms 24 to be compressed radially inwardly such that the outer circumferential surfaces 25b of wheels 25 engage the coating of component 17. The coating is thus reshaped. Component 17 may be a splined shaft with a low friction coating. |
