PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polycarbonatepolyol for coating having excellent compatibility, low viscosity and soluble in poor solvents. SOLUTION: This method for producing an ether-modified polycarbonate polyol having either repeating structural unit -(CH2)3-OC(O)O- or -(CH2)2 C(CH3)(CH2)2-OC(O)O- and is characterized by effecting an ester exchange reaction of polyethyleneglycol monoalkylether (B) having 5,000 or lower number- average molecular weight and poly(alkylenecarbonate) polyol (A) having 10,000 or lower number-average molecular weight.
