PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the straightness of straight wire. SOLUTION: A starting wire rod SS which is introduced into a drawing die 10 causes stretching due to drawing into a wire of desired diameter and is then fed in succession to a high-frequency heating coil 12 and a cooling device 14 which are located on the downstream side of the die. Because the resultant wire S is in a state where axial tension is applied at this time, the wire S is subjected, in the state where the tension is applied in an axial direction, to temperature rise and heating in a heating zone 16 and then cooled rapidly by water cooling. As a result, shape memory characteristics can be provided to the wire S by the above heating and cooling, and the recovered wire S (finished wire) has a memory of the shape of the straight wire owing to the shape memory characteristics.
