PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming optical apertures serving as sources where near-field light beams are generated and detected, and a near-field optical device fabricated by the method. SOLUTION: A method of fabricating the near-field optical device includes forming optical apertures in the ends of a conical tip by causing displacement of a pressing element, using a force with a component going toward the tip, relative to a body in which theaperurs are to be formed and which consits of the tip, stoppers positioned near the tip and each having approximately the same height as the tip, and a light-blocking film formed at least over each tip, with the pressing element having such a rough plane that covers at least the tip and at least a portion of each stopper.
