PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form the image of a measuring light on a photodetector with an intensity proper to the photodetector by a special constitution of the photodetector itself in a laser distance measuring apparatus for wide-range measurement. SOLUTION: The laser distance measuring apparatus for wide-range measurement is provided with a light transmitting channel and a light receiving channel which are arranged by keeping an interval a. The transmitting channel is provided with a light transmitting lens 1 in which a laser light source 2 is arranged in its focus. The light receiving channel is provided with a light receiving lens 3 in which a photodiode chip device 4.1 is arranged inside the plane of its focus. The device 4.1 is a photodiode chip device which is provided with at least two active photodiode faces 7.1, 7.2. The device 4.1 is arranged on a straight line oriented to a direction decided by the interval a, and the active photodiode face which is closest to the light source 2 is installed at the interval (a) with reference to the light source 2.
