PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hardly submerge a winding up machine device 6 and to simply and conveniently repair a damage at a position of optional height in an elevator shaft 1. SOLUTION: The elevator device includes a winding up machine device 6 provided with a car 2 ascending/descending along car guide rails 3, 3; a balance weight 11 lifting along guide rails 12, 12 for balance weight; a pair of winding up ropes 20 from which the car 2 and the balance weight 11 are hung; and a traction sheave 6a. The winding up machine device 6 is mounted to an upper position of a car frame body 4.
