PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a product satisfying optical isotropy, waterproofness and dimensional stability from cellulose acylate. SOLUTION: This cellulose acylate composed of an ester of cellulose with a carboxylic acid uses as the carboxylic acid an aromatic carboxylic acid having a halogen atom, a cyano group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, an acyl group, a carboxyamide group, a sulfonamide group or a ureide group as a substituent.
