PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a holding device for a preliminary wheel so that the wheel can turn through an optimum turning area as it is released from a rear flap, and so that each support device is made up of component members capable of being easily assembled together and additionally mounted and positioned in a vehicle body as they are almost covered. SOLUTION: The holding device 1 has holding arms 3 and 4 projecting from a wheel holder 2 and spaced apart from each other. The holding arms are connected at their respective ends to support devices 5 and 6 held against a vehicle body to form a vertically extending axis 7 of revolution which is disposed irrespective of the axis of revolution of the rear flap. The wheel holder 2 can turn about the axis of revolution toward a fixed position I at the rear of the vehicle and is held against the holding element 51 of an impact-absorbing transverse arm 53 via a support member 52 and is disposed in a released position II where it can turn free of the rear flap.
