PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a band saw tensioning device in an inexpensive horizontal band sawing machine capable of easily and surely performing a work for tensioning a band saw 6 and continuously adjusting tension of the band saw 6 as necessary. SOLUTION: When tension of the band saw 6 becomes proper, a steel ball 15 runs up on a slope of a recessed groove part 14b provided on an outer periphery 14a of a tension shaft 14, a handle 12 runs idle and rotational force to the tension shaft 14 is not transmitted. Tension of the band saw 6 puts in/out a bolt 17, changes pressing force of a spring 16, regulates rotational force from the handle 12 to the tension shaft 14 and regulates tension of the band saw 6.
