PLASMA TORCH FOR HEATING OF MOLTEN STEEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma torch for heating molten steel which is capable of suppressing the occurrence of erosion and wear by heat and splashes in an electrode of the plasma torch, prolonging the life of the plasma torch and improving a casting operation and the quality of a slab. SOLUTION: This plasma torch 10 is arranged with the anode side plasma torch 10a and cathode side plasma torch 10b making a pair above the surface of the molten steel 31 in use and heats the molten steel 31 by energizing the anode side plasma torch 10a and the cathode side plasma torch 10b while supplying gaseous argon for forming plasma to both plasma torches. The electrode 18 of the anode side plasma torch 10a is composed of a copper alloy containing over 70 wt.% tungsten or tungsten.
