PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an air cleaner by which cleaning and regeneration of a contaminated gas contaminated with volatile organic compounds such as e.g. odors in living environments and aldehydes generated from building materials, walls and furnitures can be performed by thrift of electric power. SOLUTION: The air cleaning apparatus is characterized by providing a housing 1 forming a passage 1a for cleaned air, a dust collecting filter 3 installed on the upstream side in the housing 1 and catching dust included in the air and a cleaning filter 4 installed on the downstream side of this dust collecting filter 3 and for cleaning objective substances to be removed by means of corona discharge and decomposing them by using an oxidation catalyst and arranging the cleaning filter 4 in such a way that it has a facing electrode 41 and a discharging electrode 42 and dielectric pellets 44 and catalyst-carrying dielectric pellets 45 are filled in a space between these electrodes 41 and 42 and an air passage 4a is formed and an air containing the objective substances to be removed is made to flow in this air passage 4a.
