PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorant having high deodorizing effect against amines. SOLUTION: The deodorant contains a pyrone compound represented by formula 1 [wherein, R is a hydrogen atom or an R'CO group wherein R' is a 1-10C chain hydrocarbon group or a 3-10C alicyclic hydrocarbon (one of hydrogen atoms of the chain hydrocarbon group and the alicyclic hydrocarbon group may be substituted by a 1-6C alkoxy group or a 1-6C alkylthio group)}]. A deodorizing method is characterized by that the deodorant is sprinkled, sprayed, applied or arranged to a malodor generation source.
