PURPOSE: An apparatus for protecting a resonator of an illuminator using microwave is provided to improve the durability of the resonator by forming a protecting film inside or outside of the resonator. CONSTITUTION: Microwave generated from a magnetron(51) is transmitted within a resonator(60) through a waveguide(53). A bulb(55) generates light by transmitting microwave energy to a gas filled therein. The generated light is transmitted to an outside through a reflector(57) and a cover glass(58). The resonator(55) covers the waveguide(53) and the front of the bulb(55) to block the microwave and to penetrate the light emitted from the bulb(55). A protecting film is made of an inner film and an outer film so as to have a net unit broken with outer space. The net unit of the resonator(60) is inserted into a space between the inner film and the outer film. The microwave transmitted through the waveguide(53) passes through freely the inner film of the protecting film and is broken by the net unit.
