PURPOSE: A method for preparing a ZnS:Cu, Cl electroluminescent substance is provided, to improve the half-life of the ZnS:Cu, Cl electroluminescent substance. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of firing the primary fired material comprising ZnS:Cu, Cl together with MgSO4·7H2O to form a secondary fired material, wherein the content of MgSO4·7H2O is 0.015-0.15 mol based on 1 mol of ZnS. Preferably the firing is carried at a temperature of about 700 deg.C for about 2.25 hours. Optionally the method comprises further the steps of cooling the secondary fired material to a room temperature after firing; washing it with deionized water; washing it with acetic acid; washing it with deionized water until the pH becomes about 6; washing it with KCN; washing it with deionized water to remove the remaining KCN.
