PURPOSE:To obtain nonaqueous electrolyte having excellent breakdown voltage, the excellent charge/discharge cycle characteristic, a high ignition point and the excellent stability to improve the performance of a battery by using the material, which includes a specific carbonate, as the electrolyte solvent for battery. CONSTITUTION:Carbonate expressed by a formula is included in the nonaqueous electrolyte. In the formula, R<1> represents an alkyl group or alkyl group with substituted halogen atom, and R<2>, an alkyl group or alkyl group with substituted halogen atom, which does not have hydrogen at a beta position. Chemical stability is thereby improved to lower the reactivity with metal lithium and improve the oxidation resistance. Safety of a nonaqueous electrolyte battery using this nonaqueous electrolyte as the electrolyte thereof is improved, and a charge/ discharge cycle life thereof is prolonged. |
