PURPOSE: A system for operating a warning lamp is provided to control a warning lamp as installing a high and a low frequency passing filters to operate two warning lamps with an output terminal of ECU. CONSTITUTION: A system for operating a warning lamp consists of a system inspection part(14) having self-diagnosis performance deciding occurrence of an abnormal signal; ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(10) including an occurring part of high and low frequency(15) outputting in an output terminal or switching to ground as occurring the high frequency signal and low frequency signal selectively under the control of the system inspection part; a high frequency passing filter(30) installed in the front of a transistor operating a warning lamp; a warning lamp operation module having a first transistor(Q1) operated by the high frequency signal passing the high frequency passing filter and a second transistor(Q2) operated as inputting of the low frequency signal blocked by the high frequency passing filter. The warning lamp operation module is installed in the front of the second transistor operated by input of the low frequency signal, and includes a low frequency passing filter(40) contacted in the output terminal. The occurring part of the high and low frequency outputs the high and low frequency signals selectively with many pins to output the signal controlling many lights. A method for operating the warning lamp consists of a step for performing self-diagnosis deciding if the sensor signal is abnormal from many devices; a step for outputting the high and the low frequency signals selectively to operate the two warning lamps(H1,H2) with a terminal; a step for turning on the transistor as being processed the high and the low frequency signals through the filter in the warning lamp operation module; a step for turning on the warning lamp as being fed the power from an ignition switch(IGN). The system for operating the warning lamp operates two warning lamps with one output terminal of the ECU and the number of the pin used for operating the warning lamp of the ECU is reduced. The number of whole parts is reduced and the production cost is reduced.
