PURPOSE: A glove box locking device is provided to enable a driver to open a glove box conveniently and easily while he sits down on his seat by installing a manipulation knob on one side of a glove box closer to a driver's seat and pivoted about a vertical axis. CONSTITUTION: A glove box locking device comprises a striker, a hook(20), a hook pivoting portion, a manipulation knob(40), and an actuating portion. The striker is installed at one side of an instrument panel. The hook(20) is pivotably installed about a horizontal axis which is provided at a position corresponding to the striker, inside a glove box. The hook is pivoted in a direction of being disengaged from the striker by means of the hook pivoting portion. The hook pivoting portion includes a base plate, projection pieces(22), a hinge pin(23) and a torsional coil spring(24). The manipulation knob(40) is pivotably installed about a vertical axis which is provided on one side, closer to a driver's seat, of the exterior of the glove box. The manipulation knob(40) includes a base plate(41), a pair of projection pieces(42), a hinge pin and an interference projection. The actuating portion actuates the hook pivoting portion upon manipulation of the manipulation portion.
