PURPOSE:To obtain the compression method, the compressor and the expander in which characteristic information on original picture is included in a coding data without deteriorating the compression rate and the format is not deviated from the ADCT standard format. CONSTITUTION:Picture data in nXn blocks are subject to orthogonal transformation by a DCT circuit 102, quantized by a quantization circuit 104, rearranged into series of data by a synthesis circuit 106a, the data at the tail end of the series of data are replaced into characteristic information on the picture data extracted by an edge information encoder 105, post-coding by a Huffman coding circuit 107 and the format is converted into the ADCT standard format by a format encoder 108. |
