PURPOSE: A hood lock apparatus for buffering impact for a vehicle is provided to prevent a pedestrian from being injured by buffering with pushing the hood down in bumping the head of the pedestrian to the hood at a head-on collision. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing hood lock is composed of a striker(2) installed in the end of a hood(1); a latch(4) combined with the striker to prevent opening of the hood; an impact detecting lever(5) contacted to the hood, and turned in applying impact to the hood; a rack gear(6) engaged with a pinion gear(8) inserted to a housing(7) mounted in the lower part of the hood; a lift member(9) having a rack(9a) engaged with the pinion gear in the housing; an operating rod(10) installed elastically in the lower part of the lift member by a compression spring(11); a turning lever(12) installed in the lower part of the operating rod; a fitting lever(13) having a fitting protrusion(14); and a fitting groove(4a) combined with the fitting protrusion of the fitting lever. The latch is pulled down by a tension spring(15) between the latch and the panel of the vehicle. The pedestrian is protected with moving down the latch in bumping the head of the pedestrian into the hood.
