PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing a heat resistant copolymer which has excellent processibility and high resistance to thermal decomposition. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of (i) adding a solvent and a polymerization catalyst to monomer mixture of styrene derivatives and acrylonitrile, and (ii) continuously mass-polymerizing the mixture of the step(i). The styrene derivatives have a substituent selected from the group consisting of 2,4,6-trimethylstyrene, 2,5-dichlorostyrene, 3-tri-n-butylstanyl styrene, 4-methylstyrene, alpha-(trimethylsiloxy)styrene, alpha-methoxystyrene, alpha-methylstyrene, m-methylstyrene, p-1-(2-hydroxy-butyl)styrene, p-2-(2-hydroxy-propyl)styrene, p-acetoxystyrene, p-chlorostyrene, p-chloromethyl styrene, and p-methyl styrene.
