A method of transcribing a digital voice file over a computer network includ es the steps of creating and transmitting the voice file over a network to a server having a transcription management system. The system assigns the voice file to a transcription service provider who transcribes the voice file into a typed digital documen t file and uploads the document file to the server. The system then advises the dictato r, or system user, of the document file and transmits such file for review. The files are maintained in an encrypted form unless decrypted by authorized users.
