PURPOSE: A method for providing multimedia message transmission service through a mobile network is provided to insert and transmit a multimedia message, such as a voice or image message, into a short message using a selective icon so that a receiver cab confirm the voice or image message, while checking the short message, when he selects and appoint the relevant icon. CONSTITUTION: In case that a request for the transmission of a short message is received from a calling MS(Mobile Station)(S10), an MSC(Mobile Switching Center) confirms whether the requested short message is a multimedia message(S11). In case that the requested short message is a multimedia message, the MSC executes interfacing with a multimedia message management server. The multimedia message management server reads an icon ID and voice or image message data from the multimedia message(S13) and stores the ID and the message data relatively with the ESN of a called MS(S14). Then the multimedia message management server transmits the requested short message and the icon data to the called MS(S15). If the subscriber of the called MS selectively clicks on the icon, the multimedia message management server searches for the ID of the selected and clicked icon(S16). Then the multimedia message management server fetches the multimedia data stored relatedly with the icon ID and transmits the fetched data to the called MS(S17).
