PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of stations without losing the effect of reducing the number of fibers and a low cost property which are the merits of a PON and to execute a fault countermeasure without increasing the number of coated optical fibers. SOLUTION: This passive optical network is provided with an optical fiber 4 for transmitting the light of a plurality of wavelength bands, a plurality of couplers 5 and 6 provided in the optical fiber and a plurality of stations 7 and 8 connected through the respective couplers to the optical fiber. The number of the stations is larger than the number of the wavelength bands and the couplers are provided with a prescribed branching ratio for the light of the wavelength band used by the station connected to the coupler and provided with the characteristics of transmitting the light without practically branching it from one port connected to the optical fiber to the other port connected to the optical fiber for the light of the other wavelength band. |
