A cathode (2) for a cathode ray tube incorporating a cathode sleeve (10) closed by a metallic hood (11) made up of a nickel alloy containing reducing elements, an oxide based emissive wash (12) deposited on the hood, is characterised in that the surface of the hood in contact with the wash is increased by indentation. An Independent claim is also included for a method for the fabrication of such a cathode. The oxide emissive wash may be barium oxide.
