A flame protection for a barbeque grill has a mesh panel (18) suspended under the cooking grid (8) via three or more hooks. The mesh panel is fitted inside a support frame to which the hooks are fitted. The metal mesh can be a wire mesh, a perforated metal plate or an expanded metal mesh structure. The mesh has a transmission factor of 40 to 60 percent and is spaced 15 to 20 mm under the cooking grid. The mesh and grid are easily separated for cleaning.
