PURPOSE: A pretensioner for a safety belt of a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to improve passenger's safety by controlling air supply into the pretensioner, which is installed at a buckle side of a safety belt upon sudden operation of a brake or upon operation of an airbag. CONSTITUTION: A pretensioner for a safety belt of a vehicle comprises a voltage generating portion(4), a controlling portion(6) and a pretensioner portion(8). The voltage generating portion(4) is installed at a brake pedal(10) for generating voltage difference when the brake pedal(10) is stepped on. The controlling portion(6) is installed to control supply or discharge of an air while sensing the voltage difference of the voltage generating portion(4) and operation of an air bag. The pretensioner portion(8) controls tension on a buckle(38) by controlling air supply by the controlling portion(6).
