PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can properly and adequately remove dews according to the use state. SOLUTION: When dew removal mode is entered, it is decided (ST1) whether the output of an illumination sensor detecting the lightness around the device exceeds a proscribed value (whether the surroundings became brighter) and when so, a heater is turned on (ST2). After the heater is turned on, it is decided (ST3) whether the temperature and humidity in the device reach prescribed values and when so, it is decided (ST4) whether the on-time of the heater exceeds a set time. After the set time has elapsed, the heater is turned off (ST5).
