PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool having an abnormal load monitoring function capable of preventing erroneous operation in detection of an abnormal condition in. starting the shift of a shaft or the like. SOLUTION: This machine tool is provided with a shaft shift controlling means 8, an abnormal load determining means 9, and an invalidating means 10. The shaft shift controlling means 8 gives a shift command s to a driving source 4 moving a movable, part 3 and can monitor a deviationΔs between the shift command s and an actual position of the movable part 4. The abnormal load determining means 9 monitoring a load in the driving source 8 determines an abnormal condition when, the load exceeds a load set value. For example, a collision determining means 9A is used as the abnormal load determining means 9. If the deviationΔs is larger than a set deviation, the invalidating means 10 invalidates determination processing by the abnormal load determining means 9.
