PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a on-load tap switch having a small and simple constitution and enhanced reliability. SOLUTION: The tap switch to work for a transformer having a plurality of taps from the windings is composed of a switching apparatus to change over one tap to another which is adjoining and a tap selector furnished with a movable contact to select a stationary contact connected with the tap to the required position, wherein the switching apparatus is equipped with a drive shaft rotated by the driving force given externally, a cam mounted on the drive shaft and furnished with a groove, a vacuum valve installed corresponding to the groove in cam, and an opening/closing mechanism installed between the cam and vacuum valve and to open and close the vacuum valve with rotation of the cam, and the opening/closing mechanism is composed of a drive boss coupled by engaging a roller with the groove in cam, an opening/closing boss coupled with the movable contact of the vacuum valve, and a wipe spring installed between the drive boss and opening/closing boss, while the cam is made of an insulating material.
