METHOD FOR MEASURING TOTAL ORGANIC CARBON

PURPOSE: A method for measuring total organic carbon is provided to measure a light absorbance in an accurate manner and reduce measurement error by permitting the light emitted from the photometer to pass only the material to be measured and reach the detector. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the step of acidifying liquid sample so as to remove inorganic carbon; injecting a catalyst like sulfate and heating the sample so as to acidifying organic carbon to carbon dioxide; solving the acidified carbon dioxide by using an alkaline solution(4); and measuring light absorbance by using photometer in accordance with the change of color of alkaline solution added with an indicator. The steps are performed by using an inner bottle(3) containing the alkaline solution and indicator, and an outer bottle(1) which contains acid solution, and accommodates the inner bottle. The organic carbon is acidified into carbon dioxide, and the carbon dioxide is absorbed into the alkaline solution and cooled. Then, the inner bottle is drawn out from the outer bottle, so as to measure a light absorbance of the inner bottle by using the photometer.
