PURPOSE: A system for encoding and decoding multimedia data is provided to classify multimedia data items according to their characteristics, encode and decode the data items using an optimized compression method to improve data compression ratio. CONSTITUTION: A system for encoding and decoding multimedia data includes a data divider(11) for dividing multimedia data items base on their characteristics, a plurality of CODECs(12) for encoding each divided data using an optimized compression method, and an encoder composed of a data constructing part(13) for reconstructing one files with the encoded data. The system further includes a data splitter(21) for splitting the encoded multimedia data items according to their characteristics, a plurality of CODECs(22) for decoding each split data using the same decoding method as the encoding method, and a data restoring part(23) for restoring the original multimedia data using the decoded data. |
