PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head capable of obtaining a high reproducing output, with respect to a yoke type thin-film magnetic head using a tunnel magnet-resistance effect element as a magneto-resistance effect element. SOLUTION: A magnetization free layer 4 constituting a tunnel magneto- resistance effect element 3 is used as a part of a magnetic circuit, and a signal magnetic flux from a magnetic recording medium 13 is efficiently passed, so that conversion efficiency is increased, and a high output is obtained.
