PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye forming coupler giving a dye having a fine hue, a high molecular extinction coefficient and good shelf stability, a silver halide photographic sensitive material excellent in color reproducibility and sharpness and having good fastness of a color image and an easy method for producing an azomethine dye. SOLUTION: The dye forming coupler is represented by formula (I) (where X and Y are each aryl or a heterocyclic group) and the silver halide photographic sensitive material contains the coupler. In the method for producing an azomethine dye, the coupler is used.
