PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact camera system good in handleability capable of surely performing photographing with the same performance as that of a single focus lens by realizing a focal distance switching lens stop device capable of switching several focal distances, and to provide a camera using the device. SOLUTION: This focal distance switching lens stop device is provided with several lens groups and several variable diaphragms (A, B and C) and can set several focal distances (wide-angle, standard and telephoto), and an interchangeable lens or the camera includes the device. The device is set so that one of the several variable diaphragms may be in a minimum diaphragm state or a totally closed state at non-photographing time when the device is not used for photographing such as the collapsible state of a photographic lens or when the device is not used, and is driven by a diaphragm motor (S182). And also, the camera system can be provided with a focal distance switching informing function which enables a user to visually recognize a state at user's request so that the user is informed of the totally closed state.
