PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lens barrel for a switching group having 1st and 2nd sub groups constituting one lens group out of several variable power lens groups of a zoom lens system moving in an optical axis direction in the case of zooming operation and functioning as focus lens groups respectively at a close position and a remote position. SOLUTION: A 1st sub group frame holding either sub group and a 2nd sub group frame holding the other sub group are supported to move respectively in an optical axis direction in order from an object side, and a lens shutter is fixed at the rear of the 2nd sub group frame in a switching group frame. In the lens barrel for the switching group of the zoom lens system, the 2nd sub group frame is moved forward and backward by a focusing mechanism in accordance with a subject distance, and the 1st sub group frame is moved in the optical axis direction with the 2nd sub group frame by the focusing mechanism in a zooming area on a long focal distance side and a zooming area on a short focal distance side in a state where the lens shutter fixed in the switching group frame is set as reference.
