PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition having high reliability by suppressing current value without damaging various liquid crystal properties against to a threshold voltage, preferably setting the temperature dependence and frequency dependence of the threshold voltage and having a high and stable contrast (sharpness) in a wide temperature range. SOLUTION: This nematic liquid crystal composition includes one or more kinds of compounds expressed by general formula (I) (n and r are each 0 to 10) as a first component and one or more kinds of compounds expressed by general formula (II) and (III) and the composition has nematic-isotropic liquid phase transfer temperature of 60 to 180 deg.C and refractive index anisotropy (δn) 0.06 to 0.30, and the liquid crystal display device using the same is also provided.
